In June of 2020 Samantha Sied with the Corvallis Advocate picked up the story of a robot doing local deliveries for a small town during the pandemic.

COVID brought us a few things we’d never seen before—this story includes a short video of a tailgate coffee hour, with Dax delivering a few treats.

In early 2020 the pandemic hit. We’d been using data from our first delivery tests to improve Dax and weren’t quite ready to roll him out, but this seemed like a custom-made opportunity for him to help so we went ahead with free Philomath deliveries regardless. With stay-at-home directives and restrictions on business it was a hard time for everyone.

In January of 2019 Freight Waves contacted Nova shortly before we unveiled our second iteration of Dax, the “Payyl” class.

Focusing on interviews with the Dax’s fellow pedestrian traffic, delivery recipients, and the people of Philomath KATU followed Dax around the city and covered this early version of Dax doing our initial delivery runs in Philomath.
