DaxOS Technology
Dax operates on DaxOS, a patented new kind of operating system for robots that allows them to fluidly prioritize and complete tasks in uncontrolled environments.

How It Works
DaxOS runs on a collection of small “chips.” Each “chip” is an expert in one job: staying on route, steering clear of obstacles, greeting people, and so on. To determine a course of action, each chip casts its vote, and the plan with the strongest case wins. Unlike the fixed playbooks robots have traditionally followed, DaxOS allows Dax to navigate real-world chaos in a safe manner.
How DaxOS Decides
DaxOS weighs signals from specialized chips in real time. Each chip votes based on its task, and the strongest case guides Dax’s next move.

How It All Goes Smoothly.

1
Assessing the Sidewalk
Imagine Dax is tasked with assessing a city sidewalk. His path-planning chip votes to follow the mapped route, and his cortex approves. Dax rolls out and begins collecting surface data.

2
Stopping for Safety
Mid-loop, a child runs across the sidewalk. Collision-avoidance fires a “stop” vote. Its vote overrides the task directive, so Dax brakes and waits until the way is clear.

3
Responding to People
Later, the interaction chip spots someone waving. If Dax’s schedule allows, Dax turns, tilts his head, and gives a greeting. If not, he saves the wave for the next pause.
Votes are weighted by the importance of the chip voting and balanced by the confidence that that chip has in its vote.
By continuously weighing these votes, Dax can navigate, complete a task, and interact with other pedestrians safely, all at once, without using a rigid playbook.

The Future
DaxOS is built for a bigger future than Dax alone: We want to create building blocks for creators everywhere as we work toward a future where technology supports our creativity and “good” robots are the standard.
